Historical Globalization

REFLECTION: In this unit I learned that Imperialism is when a stong nation takes over a weaker nation. I found it interesting that so many countries have been colonized by the same colonies. What suprised me this unit was the Scramble for Africa, and how so many colonies wanted a piece of it. One concept that I'm still having difficulty with is how all these different countries were colonized. One skill or learning stategy I found usefull was SOAPS.

EARLY ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION: Mercantalism: European monarchs increased their wealth through international trade. Capitalism: A company having private ownership of a business. A country's major economic activity changing from agriculture to manufacturing. Imperialism: A strong nation taking over a weaker nation. *Mercantilism led to Imperialism because eventually one nation got stonger then they were before so they thought that they could 'help' another, smaller, nation by taking over and making them do things their way. The stronger nation felt that this was easier for them.

IMPACT OF IMPERIALISM: There were three main motivations for Imperialism, feelings of material need, feelings of nationalism and feelings of superiority. When all the empires came together for the Scramble of Africa they felt that they needed to civilize Africa. So they broke Africa up into colonies, so they all got a part of it.

Socail Project

I am doing a research project in socail to answer this question, to what extent has imperialism shaped the present day situation in Cambodia? So far, I have learned that Cambodia, along with many other countries, began imperialism because they wanted to build their empire. Imperialism began in the 19th century. The goal for this project is to learn, answer and understand this question.
